Sebo and Billybob

In the holidays I took Billybob home and we had fun. We went fishing, swimming and I could list a whole lot of things but I will tell you two things at the moment. Last weekend I went swimming with Billybob and Zach in Oamaru. Zach and I went in the spa pools and down the slide into the pool. Yesterday I went fishing at Bells Pond. I took my dog Molly and she got wet. I nearly caught a fish - it was two metres away and it got off. We also had a few nibbles.

Kayaking – by Te Arahau

During outdoor education week I went kayaking at Mr and Mrs Bruce’s farm with the polytech people. Once we got there I couldn’t wait to get out of the car, except we had to wait for the slow pokes to get their stuff.
Once we found the kayak we wanted to go in, we got in it and waited for a polytech student to push us into the water so we could paddle around.
After some time we played piano keys and candle sticks for a quite awhile, although I think we played piano keys longer than candle sticks.
It was freezing cold, so as soon as I got out I was happy, and I thought that when we got back to school we would have hot cocoa, and as I predicted we had some.

Kayaking – by Remo

During outdoor education week the year fives went kayaking on the Waihao River with the polytech people. When we got there we had to get changed into our togs. We got to pick a kayak and a paddle, and then we had to carry the kayaks down to the shore. Then we got released onto the river.

Kayaking – by Riley

The year 5s went kayaking during Outdoor Education week. I just about rolled my kayak a couple of times. I loved it even though it was very cold.

Sleepover – by Rebekah

On Thursday 8th of March the year fours and fives had a sleepover at school in the tents. We had sausages, potatoes and homemade coleslaw for tea. After tea we had pudding which was ice cream. Next we got to play. We weren’t allowed near the tents - the teachers made that pretty clear. Then after that we had to go to the hall. Mr. Jury was there waiting to play some games with us. First we played grab the keys, then we played blinking murder and after that we played a game where the teachers had to read our minds. The only one who didn’t guess it was Mrs. Rehmann. The next game was tricky. It was Mr. Jury’s favourite game called guess the time. We had to throw down some scissors onto the floor and the scissors usually made a time. The teachers had to try to guess the time - the only ones who got it wrong were Te Arahau and Mrs. Rehmann. Then when it got dark we played spotlight. I nearly got to the hill to get a torch. After that we got into our pyjamas and went to bed.

Sleepover – by Rosie

On Thursday the 8th of March the year fours and fives stayed the night at school. First we got to play outside. I played soccer and rolled down the hill. Next we ate some food for afternoon tea and then played some more games. Soon it was time to eat our dinner which was coleslaw, potatoes and sausages. Later on we hurried to the hall to play some games with the teachers. We got to play stuff like steal Mr. Jury’s keys. Once it was dark we ran to the hill to play spotlight. Then we were told to get ready for bed.

Going To Oamaru – by Rhys

During camp week we went to Oamaru to see the historic precinct. My favourite part was the Steampunk. It was a bit scary though. The scariest part of the Steampunk was this pirate skeleton on a motor bike that made green smoke. This other bit with a plastic see through floor. At the other side of the Steempunk there was a giant fly on the wall and there were pigeons on the wall too. The pigeons thought the fly was real but it wasn’t. I enjoyed going to Oamaru.

Spotlight – by Shannah

When we stayed the night at school we waited until it was dark so we could play Spotlight. It took three tries at the game until I managed to get up to the top to be a spotter with a torch. I was the first one to be tagged. There were two more tries and then Mr. Jury led us back inside the hall to play some more games.

Sleepover – by Holly

On Thursday 8th of March the year four and five children slept over at school. We played outside and then we had afternoon tea. We played on the playground for a while and then we had tea. We had coleslaw, potatoes and sausages.

Camp Week - by Thomas Young

It was fun when we went kayaking because we played awesome games. The games were called candlestick and piano keys. You have to walk around the front of the kayaks when you play piano keys. It was really annoying because it was so cold but we enjoyed it anyway. We all got soaked from the water and from the rain. It was fun when we had to race to the polytech students. I was the fastest in my kayak because I was the first person to the polytech students. All the year fives enjoyed kayaking.

Kayaking - by Sebo Cotton

My favourite part of camp week was kayaking because it was the only time we got to go into the water. I loved it so much I would like to do it again in any type of weather, even if it was snowing but straight after I got out I would need a warm place to warm myself up.
I really want to thank Mrs Kingsbury for taking me out to kayaking and back.

Abseiling – by Michaela

On Thursday the 8th of February all the year 4s went abseiling. I was in the second group to go. We had to do a test run before we went down level 2. I was scared at the start because I had never done it before. I was the last to do level 2 and I didn`t get to do level 3 because we didn`t have enough time. Grace was the last person to do level 3. I liked abseiling because we got to do lots of fun things and it was the best thing I did in camp week.

Camp Week – by KJ Cumming

In camp week the whole school travelled to Oamaru. We did activities like climbing the tower with the bell on top. I made a clay model of a dinner set with an egg on toast. I also tried the stilts beside the railroad. My favourite parts of camp week were camping in a tent at school, and the fun and games like the shotgun game. I slept in my tent with Ben McAuliffe who is my friend.

Camp Confusion – by Jaden

On Thursday during camp week the year fours stayed the night at school. I was confused because I didn’t know what tent I was in and who I was in the tent with. When we had chosen who our tent buddies were then we had to set up our tents. My tent buddies were Charlie, Shiem, Jake and Te Arahau. Later on we played spotlight. I didn’t get a turn. Oh well, maybe next year!
We went inside to have dinner and then we went to our tents to sleep but I didn’t get much sleep. We had a really yummy breakfast but after breakfast I dropped my mug on my way to wash my dishes. Then we made our lunches and got ready for the day.

Abseiling was Awesome – by David Edh

We went abseiling at Mr and Mrs Eillis’ farm at Arno. Out on the farm the paddocks were grassy. The polytech students were helping us abseil down the cliff. We had to wear a harness, helmets, a belay device, a karabiner and rope. I really liked abseiling because I tried the third level but I did not do it. The first level was easy and the second one was medium easy.

Steampunk - by Daniel

On Tuesday the whole of Centennial School went to Steampunk. The cool things about Steampunk were the see through floor panel, the motor bike, and the massive dirt bike with the green light going on in the smoke from the smoke machine. The other things at Steampunk were the old school car with custom flames, a chopper bike, a fake alien face, and a fake robot with pistons.

Abseiling – by Charlotte

On Thursday the 8th of March the year fours went abseiling. When the parents picked the year fours up they drove to a paddock at Arno and dropped them off. They came to watch the kids go down to the bottom of the hill. Level one was really easy but it had lots of prickles. The second level was scary because it was a big rock - it had some grass but most of it was a rock. The final level was the hardest one of all. Some children didn’t go down but some did have a go at it, and some made it all the way down.

Camp Week – by Carly

Camp week was an awesome playful week. We had lots of fun. Timaru polytech students came to play games with us during the week. On Wednesday year fours and under went on a cold walk to the creek to make dams while the year fives went kayaking. Both years thought it was freezing cold. Lots of people went out of their comfort zone on Thursday when they went abseiling. On Thursday we stayed the night at school. We had a delicious tea and a yummy breakfast. Every camper noticed that there were drips of water hanging from the inside walls of their tents.
CAMP WAS AWESOME!!!!
