THE SCHOOL CONCERT

On Thursday night we went to Waimate theatre and performed a school concert. Our group was dressed in Maori clothes. There were heaps of parents laughing and clapping. We performed for about half an hour. Our group got to go on first.

THE SCHOOL CONCERT

On a fine evening Waimate Centennial School performed a concert. We wandered up stairs into the back room in the theatre to get organized. After that we all got into our whanau groups, and we walked onto the stage and sat in our places. There were four wallabies talking and then Ruma Weka performed with the rakau sticks. Ruma Kiwi did their performance about Michael Studholme. They danced. Then we sang some songs and all the other whanau groups performed their items. We sang ‘Waimate has it all’ and after the song Mr. Jury read a speech out. We walked off the stage and went home.

Sandpit

Our school wanted a new sandpit because no one played in our old one. First we needed to raise money so we could pay for the sandpit. We did this by having sausage sizzles every Friday. Each time, two people from a class were picked to help out and we also had parents helping. Once we had enough money Mrs. Soper’s husband and other parents made the new sandpit. It is shaped like an oval. Now we are waiting for the cover to be put up.

Athletics Day

On one sunny morning the whole of Waimate Centennial School went out onto the field for our athletics day. There were lots of different sports to compete in such as discus, shot put, long jump, high jump, sprints and distance run. Athletics was really hard work and it was really really cool, and we can’t wait for next year’s.

Athletics Day

On Tuesday the 9th November 2010 Waimate Centennial School held their athletics day. At athletics we tried our best in everything. In high jump we had trouble at jumping. In distance run we had no problems running around the 800 metre track. Mrs Soper treated us very kindly like we were her own children. We all hoped that we would go to the districts and we were sweating hard out. We found out that about 20 children were allowed to go to the district athletics.

Athletics Day

On Tuesday we had our athletics day at Waimate Centennial School. First we ran the distance run and then threw discus. After that we had sprints before play time. Once playtime was finished we went off to long jump followed by shot put. Then it was off to high jump but we didn’t get to finish it so the next day we finished it at lunchtime.

Athletics Day

Athletics day is a day when the whole school gathers together to participate in athletics events like long jump, high jump, sprints, shot-put, long distance run and discus. And at the end there is a whanau relay as well as a relay for parents, teachers and year six children. The parents come and watch us. It is in the fourth term every year. If you do well enough you might be chosen to go to the district athletics.

The concert

When we first arrived at the theatre we got in our costumes and had to wait to walk on the stage. All the seats were filled up and we were nervous in front of all those people. They were laughing at us when we did the funny parts and when we mucked up. It was a great experience for the people who have not ever been to our concert.

Athletics Day

On Tuesday the 9th of November it was a very special day. Why? Because it was Waimate Centennial School’s athletics day. The events that the children participated in were sprints, high jump, shot put, long jump, discus and distance run. The children were put into age groups from 4 – 11 years old according to their age on the first of January. Everybody tried their best.
Be prepared for next athletics day!
